Solar4All: Renew America’s Nonprofits Program
This first-of-its-kind investment in the nonprofit sector aims to help nonprofits make high-impact energy efficiency improvements that will create cleaner, healthier community spaces, while generating sustainable savings so that critical funds can be redirected toward mission-driven work.
Solar Leases and Power Purchase Aggreements
Before the IRA allowed nonprofits to claim the ITC, many nonprofit organizations financed their solar installation through a lease or power purchase agreement (PPA) rather than owning the system outright. This meant that the solar installer benefited from the tax credit instead of the nonprofit.
RE-volv is an organization dedicated to enhancing solar accessibility for non-profits through innovative financing solutions. Their approach, known as the Solar Seed Fund, enables non-profits to reduce their electricity bills by 15% using a solar power purchase agreement (PPA) or lease. As the non-profit makes payments toward the lease or PPA for the discounted solar energy, funds are reinvested back into the Solar Seed Fund, which supports ongoing solar projects for other non-profits nationwide. As RE-volv describes it, "It's a pay-it-forward model for solar energy."
